Anita Ammersfeld grew up in Vienna and Canada. She completed her classical vocal studies at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, The Vienna Conservatory, and The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
She started her career as an ensemble member of the Volksoper Vienna and had her debut as Cherubino in “Die Hochzeit des Figaro“ (“The Marriage of Figaro”). She performed in opera houses, theaters and concert halls as well as in numerous television productions throughout Europe. Following her career as an opera soubrette and later as a lyrical soprano Ammersfeld a turn to acting and worked with many renowned colleagues such as Elfriede Ott and Fritz Muliar.
After many years of being center stage herself, Ammersfeld added another facet to her career as a singer and actress and became a producer. First, she founded her own production company, Musikforum Ammersfeld, and pioneered productions that featured Jewish and Yiddish music, which is also part of her own identity. Other productions ranged from opera and operetta to musical satire.
From 2005-2015, she produced for her own theatre, the stadtTheater walfischgasse, which she renovated from scratch for its reopening. The artistic scope focused on plays and sophisticated musical theater, often featured world premieres and works she had commissioned to contemporary authors.
Ammersfeld is married to the entrepreneur Erwin Javor and has a son, Daniel.
